Aaron Rodgers stood with his teammates through the NFL’s moment of silence for the Paris victims before the game on Sunday. This was a very somber moment for most all involved. Rodgers’ face suddenly turned to a look of disgust when he overheard a fan who didn’t take this tribute seriously.
Rodgers’ face said it all when a fan interrupted that moment of silence before the Green Bay Packers played the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field. The fan let out a disparaging slur against Muslims and Rodgers had something to say back to this football fan, reports USA Today on November 16.
The unidentified fan got an earful from Rodgers who took it upon himself to set this person straight. He called out the fan saying:
“I must admit, I was very disappointed with whoever the fan was that made a comment that was very inappropriate during the moment of silence.” Rodgers continued, “It’s that kind of prejudicial ideology that puts us in the position we are today as a world.”
As USA Today suggests “Some athletes shirk responsibility. Don’t count Rodgers among them.”
Yahoo News reports that the NFL had a moment of silence before every game recognizing the tragedy that took place in Paris on Friday. It was after the game that Rodgers talked about the importance of the moment of silence and then lambasted the fan who disrupted that moment with their own “prejudicial ideology.”
Today’s Pigskin reported on their Twitter account that the fan yelled out “Muslims suck.” They gave kudos to Rodgers for speaking out and not ignoring this inappropriate behavior.
