Aaron Rodgers was upset, and not because of the score. Rodgers called out a fan who decided to use the moment of silence Sunday at Lambeau Field to shout out an anti-Islamic insult. During Rodgers’ post-game comments, the Green Bay quarterback rebuked the unidentified fan who screamed out “Muslims suck!”
Writes USA Today on Nov. 16: “Teams around the NFL paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks in France last week with a moment of silence before Sunday’s games. Before the Green Bay Packers lost to the Detroit Lions 18-16, a fan shouted out a slur against Muslims during the moment of silence.”
It was likely a moment of beer-driven absurdity, but it didn’t sit well with Rodgers.
“I must admit, I was very disappointed with whoever the fan was that made a comment that was very inappropriate during the moment of silence,” Rodgers said. “It’s that kind of prejudicial ideology that puts us in the position we are today as a world.”
Adds Jay Busbee from Yahoo Sports: “It speaks to Rodgers’ mindset that he’s able to look past the transitory disappointment of an ugly 18-16 division loss and call out one of his own fans, a fan who’s embodying the attitudes of one particularly narrow-minded cross-section of America. It’ll be interesting to see if Rodgers gets any blowback from that crowd; if he does, he seems like he’ll be just fine with it.”
ISIS has claimed responsibility for the coordinated attacks in Paris that left nearly 130 dead and over 400 injured. Approximately 100 victims remain hospitalized in critical condition.

Good for Aaron Rodgers for seeing, and commenting on, the bigger picture.
