Clevelanders can enjoy a family-friendly and fun day trip where they can also shop until they drop when they attend the 49th annual Ohio Mart being held at historic Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens in Akron, Ohio on Thursday, October 1 through Sunday, October 4. It is approximately a 45 minute drive from Cleveland.
Taking place among the historic landscaped gardens and the grounds of Stan Hywet Hall amidst the scenery of vibrant autumn colors, Ohio Mart offers a wide variety of sights, sounds and activities in addition to live entertainment that are sure to please the whole family. More than 15,000 people are expected to attend. Ohio Mart will feature over 120 artisans and craftspeople offering a wide range of items for sale including jewelry, handcrafted furniture, sculptures, ceramics, garden art, textiles, photography and holiday items. Also be sure to check out Vintage Finds & Curious Goods offering gently used antiques, textiles and decorative vintage items available for purchase.
For the kids there will be several activities offered including visiting the “At Home With Nature: Giant Animal Habitats” display and making crafts in the Needlecraft Tent. The children can also enjoy the Playgarden.
Manor House self-guided tours will also be available for visitors for a fee of $14 for adults and $6 for youth. While on the tour of the Manor House, don’t miss the autumn edition of Inspiration in Bloom, a showcase of fresh floral displays by area designers and florists who craft unique floral pieces that are inspired by rooms in the Manor House.
Dining options include several choices at the Food Court offering lunchtime fare from Molly’s and from a variety of vendors. However, the big draw at each year’s Ohio Mart is their famous “secret recipe” hot gingerbread. Yum! The Tudor Rose Pub, a sports bar, will feature wine and beer. You must be 21 years of age or older to partake of alcoholic beverages.
Other shopping opportunities at Ohio Mart include items like books at Ex Libris, handmade crafts at The Craft Shop, dried floral arrangements at the Garden Committee and gifts, mums and Christmas, 2015 decor at Molly’s Gift Shop. Also, check out the Needlework exhibit presented by the Stan Hywet Needlework Guild.
Hours for Ohio Mart are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday and 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $9 for adults and $2 for youth. There is an additional charge for the self-guided tours of the Manor House. On-site parking on the Great Meadow is $5 per vehicle. Free parking is available at Firestone High School and Essex Elementary School with a free shuttle available on Saturday and Sunday.
