Fixating on the principal trends for fall/winter ’15, outerwear looks are an assembly of over the top style + extra warmth. We’re talking big time warmth, like the inner lining furry kind. Fur is huge magnet this fall/winter season, especially fur accents. Fur accents such as fur lined collared coats were a constant presence at Dsquared2, Celine and Coach. There was so much fur on the runways it even made its way onto shoes and accessories–see the currently popular fur accented trend moto boots. Whether it’s the real deal or the faux kind, fur is a key trend for outerwear this fall/winter.
Like its swanky cousin, shearling coats (a return favorite) is also major this season, spotted at Fendi and Proenza Schouler. Other hit outerwear styles include full length coats (Max Mara, Burberry) and tweed (Chanel, Rodarte, Altuzarra). Busy looking for your next fall/winter coat? Shopping Tips for Fall/Winter Coats
Go a size up. Many of us yearn for the snug look, that defining moment where silhouettes and bodies meet. Some even opt for going a size down just to appear slimmer, this a fashion don’t! It’s cold out there so you’re most likely going to be wearing sweaters, fleeces and thermals which aren’t meant to be snug. To accommodate these bulkier pieces added space is needed. The little extra space is necessary so that your coat isn’t so tight that you feel restraint, like mannequin restraint, and can barely button or zip up! Word of advice: go a size up. If you’re a small get a medium, if you’re a medium get a large-the extra space will allow for more comfort and make room for the clothing underneath.
More practical, less posh. We’re not saying you can’t exude posh, the thing to think about the most when shopping for outerwear is comfort. The point of outerwear after all is to shield you from the elements, in a practical sense not hitting the freeze button it is the ultimate goal. Pick a coat that can bear brunt of harsher climates, and if it’s on trend and in your favorite style then you’ve struck gold!
