Detroit area healthy living expert Patti “VeggiePatti” Radakovich is hosting the 5th annual A Very Vegan Thanksgiving Potluck event. This event has become the premiere vegan Thanksgiving event in metro Detroit. All are welcome to the pre-Thanksgiving potluck supper, which takes place on Sun., Nov. 22 from 1 – 3 p.m.
This year, the potluck will be held at Holy Ascension Serbian Orthodox Church, located at 4337 W. Jefferson Ave. in Ecorse. For the first four years, Total Health Foods of Wyandotte had graciously agreed to host A Very Vegan Thanksgiving Potluck. However, due to their store moving at this time (don’t worry – the new location is just a few doors down), the event will be held at an alternate location for this year.
For those who would like to attend the potluck, just bring a dish and show up! Doors open at 1 p.m. The potluck begins promptly at 1:30 p.m. This should give people enough time to arrive and set their dishes out. Please bring a list of ingredients or a copy of the recipe for the benefit of people with food allergies. Extra copies of the recipe for others to take home and try would be appreciated.
Please bring a dish from one of the categories below that serves at least 8 and adheres to the guidelines. Of course, if you’d like to bring more than one dish, that’s fine, too!
- Vegan: No meat, fish, seafood, dairy, eggs, or honey please.
- Vegan Gluten-free: Please follow all vegan guidelines plus no wheat, oats, or other gluten-containing products.
- Raw: Please follow guidelines above, plus all food should be raw, i.e., not cooked over 105 degrees.
Not sure what to bring? Just ask Patti by email at email@example.com. Or consider picking up a pre-made dish from a vegan-friendly restaurant. To be eco-friendly, please consider bringing non-disposal plates and utensils from home. For more information, please visit the event page on Facebook.
Directions: The church is located on W. Jefferson just north of Southfield. From 75 N, take the Southfield exit and turn right Turn left at Jefferson, and the church will be on the right. From 72 S, take the Outer Drive exit and head toward Jefferson; turn right on Jefferson and the church will be on the left.
This event will be held in the church basement. The entrance is on the side of the church that faces the hall. Just walk to the sidewalk from the parking lot, walk past the church, and turn on the sidewalk between the church and the hall, and the entrance will be on the left. (There is no entrance on the parking lot side and the front entrance will be gated and locked.) Please note this facility is not handicap accessible. There are about 5-10 stairs to go into the basement and there is no elevator.
Patti is also seeking vegan-friendly restaurants and caterers to be part of the event. Restaurants that might like to try out new recipes, or have potential customers sample their food, may email Patti. If anyone knows any vegan friendly restaurants that might like to participate in the potluck, please tell them about the event, and have them email Patti at the address above.
