The San Francisco 49ers got a head start by trimming their roster from 90 to 75 players nearly 24 hours before the NFL deadline. Not all players off the roster were released as some were placed on injury lists.
Here is a list of all players removed from the roster by list:
LB Desmond Bishop: Bishop was signed in the middle of the 2014 season as depth with the injuries to the 49ers linebacker group. He injured his hand in the second game against the Dallas Cowboys and head coach Jim Tomsula said he would need a procedure.
WR Dres Anderson: Anderson was an undrafted free agent out of Utah. The 49ers placed him on injured reserve with an undisclosed injury, ending his 2015 season.
PHYSICALLY UNABLE TO PERFORM LIST (PUP):
C Daniel Kilgore: Kilgore is still recovering from a leg injury that he suffered last season in a prime time outing against the Denver Broncos. He had a setback this offseason and will be ineligible to play for the first six weeks of the season through October 22. If the 49ers don’t do anything with Kilgore through Week 12, he would be placed on the injured reserve if not the 53-man roster by then.
NON-FOOTBALL INJURY LIST:
WR DeAndre Smelter: Smelter was a fifth-round draft pick of the 49ers from last May and is recovering from a torn ACL injury. He is a longterm project and will be spending most of this year rehabbing. Like the PUP list, Smelter will be ineligible for the first six weeks of the year.
K Corey Acosta: Acosta was an undrafted rookie who made four field goals on four attempts, including one from 50 yards. While he was expected to be a filler in training camp, he could be a name to remember for 2016 with Phil Dawson entering his contract year.
DL Lawrence Okoye: The other foreign import on the 49ers was cut after being a project with the team since 2013. This is the second time he’s been cut after being placed on injured reserve two years ago. Okoye is practice squad eligible.
LB Steve Beauharnais: Beauharnais was a seventh-round draft pick of the New England Patriots in the 2013 NFL Draft. He signed with the 49ers in early August as competition in training camp and has five career games combined with the Patriots and Washington Redskins in the last two seasons.
OLB Shawn Lemon: Lemon was signed by the 49ers after the team released Aldon Smith. In only three preseason games games, he has one sack.
CB Mylan Hicks: Hicks was an undrafted rookie free agent out of Michigan State. He is most remembered for a pass interference penalty in the third game against the Broncos, which resulted in a Denver touchdown.
WR Mario Hull: Hull was an undrated free agent out of Rice and didn’t have a reception in three preseason games.
WR Chuck Jacobs: Jacobs has been with the team since 2012 and did not catch a pass this preseason. He was placed on injured reserve last year after tearing his ACL.
WR Nigel King: The 49ers signed King as the corresponding move for the release of CB Chris Cook. He had no receptions in three preseason games.
FB Trey Millard: Millard was a seventh round pick of 2014 who didn’t appear much in the preseason. He was expected to compete at FB and special teams after coming off a torn ACL. After “redshirting” last year, he ended up only playing on special teams in preseason.
OT Sean Hooey: Hooey was claimed off the waivers from the New York Jets last June. He didn’t see much playing time in the preseason.
