Last Fall, 2K Games and Firaxis Games worked to release the newest iteration in the Sid Meier’s series, Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth. The game was greeted with critical acclaim and was yet another stellar installment in the Sid Meier’s franchise.
Today, 2K Games revealed Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth will be receiving an expansion pack called Rising Tide. Rising Tide is scheduled to launch later this Fall for PC, with MAC and Linux by Aspyr ports coming later this Fall.
Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth – Rising Tide will deliver a handful of new gameplay features that extend the experience players received from last year’s Beyond Earth. Among the features are things like building “floating settlements and accessing natural resources hidden beneath the seas of the alien planet.”
Players can also form the “diplomatic landscape” through certain improvement traits, altering diplomatic affairs and by utilizing benefits from their closest allies. Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth – Rising Tide will also be bringing four brand-new factions, which include Al Falah, a crew of “nomad explorers descended from wealthy and resilient Middle Eastern states.”
The Sid Meier’s Civilization franchise is one of the longest-running on PC today and its continues to receive exceptional installment after exceptional installment. 2K SVP of Marketing Sarah Anderson talked about the work of Firaxis Games.
“Firaxis Games has an impressive track record of delivering robust and innovative expansions that radically change player experience while adding extensive replay value. Rising Tide is no exception, offering new features and overhauled gameplay systems that will challenge players embarking on a quest for planetary domination,” Anderson said.
Creating a game that establishes a firm foundation of lore and history has been a key part to Civilization’s success over the years. Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth – Rising Tide will continue to add to what last year’s installment already established, according to Sid Meier, director of creative development at Firaxis Games.
“Rising Tide builds upon the lore of Beyond Earth, breaking away the historical boundaries of the original franchise and furthering mankind’s search for a new home in outer space. Whether colonizing the planet’s oceans, acquiring new Affinities or meeting exotic new leaders, aliens and units for the first time, Rising Tide offers more ways for players to write their own stories on a new world,” Meier said.
Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth – Rising Tide will be launching later this Fall on PC, with ports over to MAC and Linux by Aspyr also arriving this year. 2K Games announced E3 2015 will be the site where first gameplay of Rising Tide will be shown, so we’ll be sure to keep you updated on that announcement when it occurs.
