If you can’t believe that Debutante Balls still exist in today’s day and age, you’re not part of Upper Class society because “Deb Balls” (as they re frequently called) are alive and well, and, making a strong come back! And, the most prestigious Deb Ball beyond doubt is the International Debutante Ball which is by invitation only.
Nearly every debutante ball has strict codes of conduct and requirements that must be fulfilled including the gown that is to be worn by the young ladies being presented to the young men who will be the escorts for the Debs for the evening (usually two escorts per Deb is standard) to guests that may be invited to the event. And, each “Deb”must perform a curtsy or Texas Dip as she is presented. (It isn’t as easy as it sounds and it takes hours of practice to get it right!) There are many traditions and certain protocol that must be followed throughout the Deb season, but, the memories are lifelong, and, it is worth the expense and effort to participate if the opportunity presents itself.
The 2016 International Debutante Ball will be held at the Waldorf Astoria which has been home to the ball since 1966. In addition to the main ball there are pre-ball and post-ball parties, and, the International Debutante Ball is always held between Christmas and New Year’s Day (traditionally on December 29th) in New York City.
