Set to release their debut 50’s retro-pop style original track “She’s Crazy” this summer, Soul/R&B girl group The Janes Life are quickly becoming a recognizable name around the country. Consisting of members Bella, Kelly, Jaime, Llyra, and Tayla, The Janes Life first became known to listeners while performing unique renditions of popular tracks. These tracks include Ellie Goulding’s “Love Me Like You Do,” Judy Garland’s “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and Carly Rae Jepsen’s “I Really Like You.”
Listeners and fans of The Janes Life are most impressed with the fact that the girl group can take a popular song, turn it into their own, while making their cover sound much better than the original. Such as is the case in point for their latest rendition of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “I Really Like You.” The girls turn the pop-inspired track into a more rhythmic, soulful sound which showcases strong vocal representation displayed over light drum and bass instrumentations in the background. “We tend to make each cover song our own rendition and own style,” the band states, “allowing us to relate to the song no matter what genre the song is.”
The Janes Life first formed during a casting call in the summer of 2014. Held at The Loft Sound Studio in Long Island, New York, co-owners Matthew LaPorte and Donnie Klang wanted to create a five-piece vocal powerhouse with the selected females. After completing the formation of the group, the members of The Janes Life would gain instantaneous fame with their first YouTube smash for their epic video “History of Girl Groups.” In the video, the girls pay tribute to the best female groups over the past 75 years. “We all love different styles of music and have different influences which plays a large role in what we are about,” the girls state, “we are all individuals, being relatable to every generation and every style of fan who we call ‘Janes’ as well.”
Since forming The Janes Life, the girls have taken their talents in front of live audiences including a May 2nd featured performance at The Webster Hall while celebrating the 30th Birthday Show Celebration for Greg Raposo (Dream Street). In January of 2015, The Janes Life made an appearance at Farmingdale High School for Music For Michelle, a benefit raising funds for a local cancer patient. “We sold out 900 seats, which was amazing,” recalls the girl group.
What would The Janes Life like their fans and listeners to know? “The best line we have heard yet, which we use in our daily lives as well as our intro for our performance is ‘When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you will be successful.'” The Janes Life are proving this and are destined for a bright future in the industry.
