UPDATE: Alice has been rescued. Retrievers and Friends of Southern California had plans in place to pick her up, but Alice is so lucky she was adopted by a private family. On the Retrievers and Friends Facebook page, the following was posted: “Hello! I’m Kayt and I am the one who adopted Alice this afternoon. I promise each of you that she is receiving spectacular care and has a loving and wonderful home that she will be going to tomorrow. The family I have placed her with has extensive experience with senior dogs and is very excited to help her out. She had an exam at a very good animal hospital this evening and is peacefully sleeping at the foot of my bed as I type.”
Many thanks to everyone who shared her story, who volunteered to help and who sent her words of hope. Sharing saves lives.
In Downey, California a 16-year-old Golden Retriever was brought to Downey Animal Care Center as an owner surrender on August 10. How could that be? No information has been offered as to Alice’s health, but advocates are hoping someone will come forward to adopt or foster this dog and help her to enjoy her last days, weeks or years. Perhaps a kind heart will fulfill a bucket list for Alice, and show this dog through gentle care and deeds how every life counts.

“My name is Alice and I’m an approximately 16 year old female golden retr. I am not yet spayed. I have been at the Downey Animal Care Center since August 10, 2015. I am available on August 10, 2015. You can visit me at my temporary home at D129.”
Alice appears to be very confused and sad. If nothing else, this dog deserves a soft bed, good food and a veterinarian examination to treat any symptoms which might be contributing to Alice being uncomfortable or in pain. What a dog she must be to have been able to be alive for 16 years. What stories she could tell if she could only speak. How many dog lovers would have loved it if their dogs had lived such long lives? Click here for Alice’s Facebook page. Please share her story with friends, family and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives.
