The first getaway: Georgia Aquarium Festival of the SEAson
A watery winter wonderland lit up with thousands of twinkling lights plus lavishly trimmed trees and visits from Santa and SCUBA Claus: It can only be Georgia Aquarium’s annual Festival of the SEAson.
Come for the Holiday Tree Lighting, held at 10:30 a.m. daily in the aquarium’s atrium and join the holiday singers in a round of Christmas carols. Stick around for the Holidazzle light and music show choreographed to classic holiday tunes, which takes place at the top of every hour.
Watch SCUBA Claus dive into the world’s largest aquatic habitat, Ocean Voyager, and swim among whale sharks, manta rays and countless colorful fish. Showtime: 12 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. every Thursday through Sunday until December 25.
Catch the “Symphony of Snow,” the aquarium’s popular Broadway-style live musical, which includes holiday classics and culminates with an appearance by Santa Claus, every weekend through December 20.
See the underwater menorah in Ocean Voyager. In celebration of Hanukkah and in accordance with tradition, another candle will be magically lit under water each evening of the holiday, December 6 through 14.
Have a very special breakfast with Santa prepared by Wolfgang Puck Catering and featuring visits with Santa and fun holiday activities, including writing a letter to You Know Who and creating a Yuletide craft. Breakfast with Santa takes place at 9 a.m. Sat., December 12. Tickets: $19.95/person.
New to this year’s Festival of the SEAson is the debut of “The Sea Around Us,” a spectacular 3D projection mapping video incorporating cutting-edge technology to bring viewers breathtaking visuals 60 feet high.
Festival of the SEAson runs now through December 25, 2015. General aquarium admission is required for all Festival of the SEAson activities. Admission tickets are $32.95 for children, $38.95 for adults and $34.95 for seniors. Some Festival of the SEAson activities require a separate activity ticket purchase.
