An 11-year-old boy fatally shot an intruder during an attempted home invasion in the middle of the day, which occurred at a north St. Louis County home. The boy, who was left home alone with his 4-year-old sister, was protecting his sibling when he took aim with a loaded handgun and pulled the trigger, as the intruder made his way into the family’s home.
According to Fox News on September 4, the intruder was struck in the head with the bullet and died. When police arrived to this home, just north of downtown St. Louis, they found the teen intruder dead on the floor of the front door foyer, he was only 16-years old.
There were two people who were in on this home invasion, but once the teen was shot, the other one went running, with police catching up to the 22-year-old suspect and taking him into custody. The name of this alleged home intruder has not been released.
The dead teen is identified as Lamonte Streeter, who only lived a few blocks away from this home. Neighbors have come forward to say they witnessed the shooting and that it didn’t happen in the home, it happened on the front porch.
Jazmyne Clark, 18, who lives two doors down from the house where the shooting occurred told the media that the victim was never in the house. He also said that the dead teen wasn’t breaking in, he was just trying to sell the kid his phone.
A neighbor said that the 16-year-old boy was standing in the yard and the 11-year-old boy beckoned him to come closer and when he did he shot him in his head, killing him. While police are gathering all the information from potential witnesses, they did say there is evidence to indicate that this shooting happened in the home, just as the 11-year-old boy reported.
Police said that these intruders tried to break into the modest ranch-style home twice earlier in the day, but were unsuccessful, according to MSN News today. The intruders returned for a third try and were able to gain access through the front door, with no sign of forced entry found.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward and while they cannot release the specifics of this case, they do believe the shooting happened inside the home. The boy and his sister were unharmed and the 22-year-old suspect, who was with the fatally shot Streeter, sits in jail as police decide if he should be charged with a crime.
Police interviewed the mother of the 11-year-old boy, who was left home alone with his sister. Sgt. Brian Schellman of the St. Louis County Police Department said that the mother was being cooperative.
Police particularly wanted to talk to the mother about the boy being home alone watching the preschooler and having access to a gun. Police believe the mom had purchased that gun because of previous break-in attempts at the home.
