The 10th annual Newport Mansions Wine & Food Festival brings Chef Jacques Pépin and his daughter, Claudine for a demonstration on the Kitchen Aid Demonstration Stage at Sunday’s Grand Tasting this Fall. Claudine has served as a Brand Ambassador for Moet & Chandon and Dom Perignon Champagne and recently published “Kids Cook French,” a collection of 30 simple, classic recipes in both English and French, illustrated by her chef father and her daughter, Shorey. This year’s event takes place Sept. 25-27, bringing wine lovers to RI to celebrate exquisite wines in Newport’s beautiful mansions from the Gilded Age.
Chef Pépin will also join Martha Stewart, who returns to the festival for the second year for a new signature event entitled A Conversation with Martha Stewart and Jacques Pépin, complete with a Champagne Taittinger tasting in the Marble House Grand Ballroom prior to the Grand Tasting.
Stewart, an Emmy Award-winning television host, entrepreneur and best-selling author of 83 books (and counting), and Pépin, an internationally recognized chef, cookbook author, and cooking teacher who has published more than two dozen books and hosted 11 acclaimed public television cooking series, will discuss what’s hot and what’s not in lifestyle and food trends.
Other highlights include cooking demos with Ben Pollinger, executive chef of Oceana in New York, known for his seafood preparations, and 2015 James Beard Rising Star award semi-finalist JJ Johnson, chef de cuisine of The Cecil in New York’s Harlem. Amy Guittard, author of the “Guitard Chocolate Cookbook,” Allison and Matt Robicelli, wholesale bakers from Brooklyn and Jacques Torres will also take part. Local chef Matthew Peterson of Newport Harbor Corp., Jamestown Fish owner and executive chef Matthew MacCartney and Frank Terranova, Johnson & Wales instructor and NBC10 daily TV segment host on “Cooking with Class” are participants as well.
The Friday night Rosecliff gala features special fine wines and food, and the Collectible Wine Dinner at The Elms returns on Saturday when the wines will be hand-selected by the Festival’s Director of Wines, Michael Greenlee, a 25 year veteran of the industry. Also on Saturday night, attendees can enjoy late night bites and cocktails by some of the Festival sponsors with the return of Newport After Dark, taking place at Forty 1˚ North on the Newport waterfront.
