Overview of Scarlet (The Lunar Chronicles Book 2) by Marissa Meyer (available at www.MarissaMeyer.com):
Cinder, the cyborg mechanic, returns in the second thrilling installent of the bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She is trying to break out of prison – even though if she succeeds, she’ll be the Commonwealth’s most wanted fugitive. Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit’s grandmother is missing. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information about her grandmother’s whereabouts, she is loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her. As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana, who will do anything for the handsome Prince Kai to become her husband, her king, her prisoner.
Scarlet is a stunning rendition of the story of Little Red Riding Hood, except this time the wolf is an incredibly hot guy with a dark secret. Ms. Meyer allows readers to fall into Scarlet’s world, not giving away why her story is so important until later in the book. Meanwhile, Scarlet is sent on a harrowing adventure looking for her kidnapped grandmother. Those wanting to see more of Cinder may be disappointed, as Scarlet focuses mostly on the title character. Don’t worry, Cinder does make several appearances and by the end is once again a major character. Oh, and make sure you get a copy of the book with Wolf’s story story at the end. The story is a fascinating read and will make you despise Levana even more for what she is putting her own people though and will make readers love Wolf even more.
