It’s one of the most anticipated albums of the summer, AsOne’s self-titled debut album. Theresa Bailey and Lisa Wright make the first interracial female duo in all of recorded music. They’re history makers, trailblazers and ready to take Christian music by storm! The duo’s debut album released yesterday in stores and all digital outlets featuring eight tracks of healing virtue, perfect for the current state of the world today. Songs like: “One” and “Love Is a Better Way” which features the McCrary Sisters speak to tensions touching the world, admonishing all to hear the message that love is the only way.
Bailey and Wright met at the Gospel Music Association Immerse Conference and remained strangers until a writing partnership was forged. As the two ladies completed a song they co-wrote, it was the genius idea of Paul Wright who saw more in the ladies than a simple collaboration. What he saw stretched beyond modern music and peeped right into destiny. From that moment, the movement “AsOne” was birthed.
Following that fateful meeting and pairing, the duo was signed to a major contract. The ladies set out to continue what was birthed with their first collaboration. Eight tracks later, the AsOne debut album was ready for the masses. The album was recorded studio live, “old school” as Theresa Bailey puts it. “If there were any mistakes, we went back and recorded it again!” This arduous recording process resulted in one of the year’s musical gems, the self-titled debut album “As One”.
Beyond Ebony & Ivory
When Stevie Wonder partnered with Paul McCartney 33 years ago, it was a monumental first, pairing two colossal crooners on the same track. The AsOne debut project features much more than the bringing together of two otherwise separate singers. The song Wright and Bailey first penned together was entitled: “Meet Me” singing about how the Lord can meet anyone where they are. After the two met where they were, a real relationship and bond was created. The two are together determined to affect history and bridge the long standing gap in communities and churches across the world.
In a recent interview with SoulProsper Radio, Lisa Wright says of the pairing: “we didn’t know how similar we were!” Wright goes on to say: “We know we’re trailblazers, not everyone is for this but we’re not afraid and hopefully we can change this with this album.” Theresa Bailey says of the AsOne album and experience: “we want to bring unity with our presence, with racism we have to check the flesh…(when it comes to racism) we forget to love, we forget that God is love”.
From the outset, the ladies had a vision and a mission. Coming together as the first interracial (black and white) female duo would not be without its challenges and these two have proved they have what it takes to spread healing through the nation. Promoting racial unity is one of the strong messages AsOne endeavours to undertake. The duo is also reaching across the music industry aisle, teaming up with Lamar Campbell & Spirit of Praise and rapper Da’ T.R.U.T.H on “One” as well as Mark Kibble (Take 6) and the McCrary Sisters on other songs.
We want to make a difference with our message of love, hope and peace. -Lisa Wright

Music lovers, think it not strange that this album features only eight tracks. Biblically, the number eight represents new beginnings. While it is a new beginning altogether for Bailey and Wright artistically, the healing derived from this album and its musical and vocal collaborations is certain to bring new life, health, and outlook to each listener. Considering the immensity of their undertaking, the AsOne debut album is only part of it.
